This may come as a surprise, but your pelvic floor muscles play ZERO role in pushing baby out during labor & delivery. When you experience contractions, this is your uterus slowly gaining power for pushing baby down and out. Your body’s job is to release, create space and yield to the process.
I often use the analogy that your pelvic floor is just like taffy. It needs a slow, steady stretch over time. It needs to be able to release, not get more stiff or tense!
So, ditch the Kegels (stiffening/tensing of the pelvic floor). Instead, do these 4 effective birth prep strategies.
LEARN HOW TO BREATHE WELL DURING ACTIVE LABOR
Whole core breathing has a direct impact on your pelvic floor and is a great way to create space and softness by allowing your uterus to run the show. Breathing in this way also helps manage discomfort, allows the uterus to be more efficient and is better for you and baby! Start practicing now so that you have a good breath-pelvic floor connection pathway before birth.
LEARN A PELVIC DROP OR REVERSE KEGEL FOR DELIVERY
You can start practicing this around 34 weeks pregnant. You would still use the same breath as above, but then use an exhalation that gently guides your pelvic floor into a more open and relaxed position. This goes along with the “open glottis pushing concept” which we know is easier on the pelvic floor and reduces risk for prolapse and perineal tearing.

PRACTICE LABOR AND DELIVERY POSITIONS
During birth, you can learn where baby is in the pelvis and how to work with your body to open that space. This opens baby’s path for a birth that requires less use of force, is overall more efficient AND will reduce your risk for injury for a happier postpartum pelvis.
PERINEAL PROTECTION
Yes, birth is wild and unpredictable. When it comes to perineal and pelvic floor muscle tearing, there are variables you can control and some you cannot. Wouldn’t it be nice to learn how you can control the controllables?

These things aren't as helpful as we're told:
❌ Pushing practice (without pelvic prep)
❌ Perineal massage (it's painful!)
❌ Warm compresses (not enough on its own)
What actually protects you:
✔️ Exercises that open your pelvis
✔️ Training your pelvic floor to release
✔️ Pushing with ease, not force
✔️ Creating more space at baby's exit
✔️ Avoiding outdated hospital practices
When you have this info before your birth, here's what's possible ⬇️
Sure! This helped Ashley, but is this course for me?
Yes, if you...
✔️ Are having your first baby and worry about tearing, pain, prolapse or pee problems after birth
✔️ Had a birth injury before and want a better outcome & recovery this time
✔️ Want a lower-intervention, more natural hospital birth
✔️ Are planning either a medicated or unmedicated birth
✔️ Want to feel more in control of your birth
✔️ Know you need more than a standard birth class

BUT HERE'S THE THING!
Kayla & Ali didn't...
❌ leave it up to chance.
❌ assume their provider would help protect their pelvis.
❌ "just hope for the best."
THEY PLANNED FOR IT.
They took control to birth their babies AND protect their bodies!
✨PS: You can do this too!
